Report: Earthquake Rocks Thailand

Omg, Thailand got earthquake?

According to Google source

A 7.0 Earthquake has just hit near Thailand but reports are that no extreme damage has been caused.

An agency that monitors earthquakes has just reported that a 7.0 quake has hit Myanmar which borders Thailand. The quake was INLAND and the point of origin was deep below the Earth’s surface so the damage will be minimal. I just figured with the recent Japan Earthquake / Tsunami, when people here EARTHQUAKE they are immediately going to think the worst. Sources are saying that the quake was felt as far as Bangkok, where the buildings were actually swaying.

There has been no reports from Myanmar as far as the damage goes. Hopefully the damage from this Thailand earthquake is very minimal and nobody was injured. As more news develops we will be sure to fill you all in. Once again, a 7.0 earthquake has hit Myanmar, which borders Laos and Thailand.

An earth quake at thailand?

Japan earthquake: New blast at Fukushima nuclear plant

Omg, another new blast again??

check the latest BBC News as below;

New blast at Fukushima nuclear plant

A satellite photo of the Fukushima Daiichi plant showed the damage done in earlier explosions

A quake-stricken nuclear plant in Japan has been hit by a third explosion in four days, amid fears of a meltdown.

The blast occurred at reactor 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, which engineers had been trying to stabilise after two other reactors exploded.

One minister has said it is "highly likely" that the rods might melt. Radiation levels near the plant have risen.

The crisis was sparked by a 9.0-magnitude quake and tsunami on Friday.

Thousands of people are believed to have died, and millions are spending a fourth night without water, food, electricity or gas. More than 500,000 people have been left homeless.

Staff evacuation

There is no word on the cause of Tuesday's explosion, but initial indications suggest it is not on the same scale as the previous ones.

Staff working at reactor 2 have been evacuated.

On Monday, a hydrogen blast at the Fukushima Daiichi's reactor 3 injured 11 people and destroyed the building surrounding it. That explosion was felt 40km (25 miles) away and sent a huge column of smoke into the air.

It followed a blast at reactor 1 on Saturday.

All explosions have been preceded by cooling system breakdowns - although the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) said the blasts had not penetrated the thick containment walls shielding the reactor cores.

Engineers battled into the early hours of Tuesday to try to keep water levels up in order to cool the fuel rods at reactor 2, but on two occasions the rods have been fully exposed.

Long exposure can damage the rods and raise the risk of a meltdown.

Four of the five pumps used to administer cooling sea water were believed to have been damaged by the blast at reactor 3.

Higher radiation levels were recorded on Tuesday south of Fukushima, Kyodo news agency reported.

Nearly 185,000 people have been evacuated from a 20km (12 mile) exclusion zone around the plant.

Japan earthquake: Meltdown alert at Fukushima reactor

Latest news from, click==> BBC for detail and direct news;

A 20-km exclusion zone has been imposed around the plant

Technicians are battling to stabilise a third reactor at a quake-stricken Japanese nuclear plant, after it was rocked by a second blast in three days.

The Fukushima Daiichi plant's operators said they could not rule out a fuel rod meltdown, after a cooling system broke.

They are injecting seawater into reactor 2 after its fuel rods became almost fully exposed.

A cooling system breakdown preceded explosions at the plant's reactor 3 on Monday and reactor 1 on Saturday.

The latest hydrogen blast injured 11 people, one of them seriously, and sent a huge column of smoke billowing into the air.

The Tokyo Electric Power Company, which runs the plant, is playing down any health risk.

The utility says thick containment walls shielding the reactor cores have remained intact.

But the US said it had moved one of its aircraft carriers from the area after detecting low-level radiation 160km (100 miles) offshore.

Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from a 20-km exclusion zone around the Fukushima Daiichi plant.

Experts say a disaster on the scale of Chernobyl in the 1980s is highly unlikely because the reactors are built to a much higher standard and have much more rigorous safety measures.

NOT TRUE: BBC News Flash Report: Japan government confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuke plants

Original Source: http://www.bloggedphilippines.com/

Thanks lot to bloggedphilippines for detail report.

Since the news spread out about the possible meltdown of
Japan's nuclear reactor in Fukushima due to the strong earthquake last Friday, there has been fictitious text/SMS messages circulating around the Philippines. The text message warns that the radiation from the problematic nuclear plant will reach the Philippines and other Asian countries today and everybody is advised to stay indoors for their safety especially when it rains. Here's one variation of that text message:

BBC FLASHNEWS: Japan government confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asia countries should take necessary precautions. If rain comes, remain indoors first 24hrs. Close doors & windows. Swab neclskin with betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precautions. Radiation may hit Phil at starting 4pm today. Pls send to your loved ones.

If you received a similar text message: DO NOT BELIEVE IT! DO NOT FORWARD IT! It's a false warning designed to spread unnecessary anxiety and confusion.

Here are the facts:

- Although there has been two explosions in the Fukushima nuclear plant and a possible meltdown might occur, there has been no radiation leak yet that can reach other countries. In fact, only those inside the 12 mile radius from the plant are susceptible to current partial radiation leakage.
See also the report from BBC:

Experts say a disaster on the scale of Chernobyl in the 1980s is highly unlikely because the reactors are built to a much higher standard and have much more rigorous safety measures.
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12729138

- The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) issued a statement saying that radiation levels in the Philippine environment are all normal.
Here's the actual copy of their statement:

The DOST-PNRI routinely undertakes daily radioactivity monitoring in the environment. Based on DOST-PNRI monitoring, there has been no increase in the levels of radioactivity since the time of the Fukushima event.

A plume trajectory study from the Fukushima site by the World Meteorological Organization based in Melbourne, Australia showed that the plume from the site of the incident will not pass the Philippine territory as of March 14, 2011.
